This is a beautiful hybrid selection of our U.S. native sneezeweed. The dark brown flower centers are surrounded by yellow petals that are splashed with orange-red creating a festival of color from June until late summer. It grows to 36" tall and grows best in full sun and moist soils. Best if used in the back of the border as its’ foliage is average at best.

Helenium ‘Moerheim Beauty’
A very popular cultivar with rustic-red flowers splashed with yellow and orange. Sturdy stems make this a great cut flower, but it also holds up well in the garden while attracting butterflies. It is a late season bloomer that grows to 36".

A shorter hybrid selection of the eastern U.S. native sneezeweed. This beauty grows to only 28" tall and is a good choice for the mixed border. ‘Wyndley’ features 2-3" diameter copper-colored flowers that start in June and last well into August. It is easy to grow in full sun and average but moist soils.

This dwarf cultivar has more of a prostrate habit, growing just 6-9" tall. Long blooming bright orange flowers have a deep red center eye. They resemble the look of wild roses with their evergreen foliage and woody stems. They prefer full sun and are tolerant of dry soils which makes them perfect for rock gardens and other sunny spots.

A long-blooming, compact, evergreen shrub with large leaves 'Dazzler' will certainly take the show with its single, magenta-red, wild rose-like flowers. The centers of the flowers are yellow and the flowers can be seen mid spring to mid summer, and again in the fall if deadheaded. This plant does not have any major pest or disease problems, but will certainly perform best away from wet or poorly drained soil. Drought tolerant. It grows to 9-12" tall.

This is a relatively new strain of Hellebores introduced from hellebore breeder David Culp. Recognized as a superior seed strain, these plants boast flower colors in shades of reds, pinks, apricots and picotees. There are various flower forms including some doubles and some anemone types. Growing to 12-18", these are tough evergreen sun to shade loving perennials. They require a woodland type soil or at least soils amended with some type of organic matter or humus. These are some of the first hardy perennials to bloom in the early spring, often when there is still snow on the ground. Get out early to see them. Removing some of the older rough looking foliage will make the plants look a little cleaner. One of the better deer resistant perennials. Good in dry shade or moist shade.

The plants exhibit excellent vigor and have exceptional foliage. Mature size is 24" tall by 24" wide. Helleborus x hybridus was voted the 2005 Perennial Plant of the Year by the PPA!

These are beautiful selections from the Hellebore breeders at Pine Knot Farms. Bloom colors range from white, mauve, green, pink, to lavender. The flowers are about 3" in diameter and appear from January to April. Mature height will be about 15-18". Culturally plants require a part-sun to shady area with rich, moist, cool soils. The tough dark green foliage is evergreen and usually looks good all year. Plants are deer resistant. Make sure to get out into the garden early enough to see these in full bloom!

This beauty has compact, velvety-green foliage with deep red venation and silver highlights. There is so much red and silver coloration, that is looks like the leaves are edged in green. This edge turns orange as the seasons progress to cooler temperatures. The foliage forms a neat mound that grows 8-10" tall and 16" wide. Flowers bloom in summer on 12-15" stalks, but are insignificant compared to the foliage.

A flower show  starts in spring and continues sporadically with deadheading through summer. Great for use in containers. Prefers full to part sun and average soil moisture. Described by Terra Nova as being a richly textured, ruffled, 'Obsidian' type cultivar 'Mahogany' sports beautiful foliage! Similar to 'Peach Flambe' but with darker foliage tones, 'Mahogany' has shown to be a more vigorous grower for us!

'Marmalade' is an improved 'Amber Waves' with shinier, more ruffled leaves that exhibit better colors in a range from umber to deep sienna. This stunning new selection has foliage similar to ‘Amber Waves’ but are larger, smoother and have more red infused into the leaves. This Heuchera has the same minty-green foliage of H. `Green Spice’, but with pink flowers instead of white. Flowers also bloom a few inches shorter on this cultivar at 24", instead of the 28" of 'Green Spice’. Plants still have the same great mounding habit and develop the nice red coloration of the veins. Grows 8" tall and 12" wide. Prefers part sun and moist, well drained soil.

One of our all time favorites, ‘Petite Pearl Fairy’ boasts beautiful bronze leaves marbled with silver. Place in the front of the rock garden or border in part-shade and a well-drained soil.

Heuchera ‘Raspberry Regal’

A nice choice for attracting hummingbirds, this Coral Bells has raspberry-red blooms on wiry 3' stems over mounds of deep green foliage. Flowers appear in Early to Mid-season and are great near the front of borders or for cutting. Plants grow best in full sun with some afternoon shade and consistently moist but well-drained soil.

Heuchera ‘Ruby Veil’

This selection produces ruby-red foliage that can grow up to 8” across. It is touted as being more sun tolerant than most other coralbells. The wonderful foliage color is nicely accented by its silvery-gray venation pattern throughout the leaves. The flowers are a rather inconspicuous whitish-green. Grows 15-20” tall in part-shade to full sun. Heucheras require consistently moist soil, especially during the heat of summer, to prevent leaf scorch. An average, well-drained soil is best and mulching is also recommended to prevent frost heaving in winter.

This is still a good choice even with all of the newer cultivars. ‘Splendens’ has scarlet blooms on 18-24" wiry stems in Early to Mid-season. The flowers appear over very nice mounds of green foliage. Grows great in borders or along paths in the part-shade garden in a well-drained soil. Also great for bringing hummingbirds to the garden.

Very deep purple leaves of this heuchera look mysterious and inviting and they are actually soft to the touch! Flowers bloom in early summer, but are insignificant compared to the foliage. Plants are fairly drought tolerant and prefer part shade.

A standout in the perennial garden, this robust grower boasts stalks of white, bell-shaped flowers from September through frost. Large pale green leaves are soft and fuzzy to the touch. This easy to grow plant prefers bright shade and drier soils and grows up to 2’ with a mounding habit. It makes a great groundcover or accent plant, and the flowers are also nice for cutting.

A new vigorous selection of the late blooming Heuchera villosa that has been selected for its unique foliage. 'Brownies' is the largest of the villosa types, forming large mounds from chocolate colored leaves with purple-red undersides that peak out a bit. The flowers are white and insignificant. The foliage will grow to 16" tall with the flower scapes reaching 24-30". Blooms in mid-summer. Plants exhibit good heat tolerance.

Bred and developed for its unusual foliage, 'Caramel' has apricot new growth that fades to amber in summer. Creamy-white flowers are produced in late summer on 18" tall stems. Foliage grows to 12" and turns a beautiful salmon-red in the fall. Plants grow best in full to part sun and perform well even under trees in dry shade. Prefers average well-drained soils especially in winter. Makes a great edging or front or the border perennial where its foliage can be seen up close. Wow! This bright chartreuse foliage is a real head turner, but it's not just pretty for a little while. A sport of H. ‘Caramel’ it is also a strong, hearty grower. It performs well in heat and humidity. Habit forms a tidy compact mound that grows 12" tall. Flowers are creamy white and bloom in mid summer on 14" flower scapes. Plants prefer full to part shade, but heavier shade will produce a slightly more green appearance.

Heuchera villosa f. purpurea ‘Bronze Wave’

Sturdy deep-bronze foliage is a show-off in the shade, especially when paired with deep greens of hosta or bright oranges and yellows of other Heuchera. It is a late flowering Heuchera, showing color in September and October with creamy-white flowers. It is drought tolerant and performs well in tough sites. Foliage grow 18" tall or larger and flowers grow to 30".

The long lasting shell pink flowers of Foamy Bells give an airy transparent feel to the part-shade garden. An exciting new selection of our Eastern U.S. native rose mallow! It is grown for its dissected purplish-green foliage as well as its flowers. The large flowers are brilliant red and appear in Mid to Late season. This large plant grows to 48" tall and although it is native to wet areas it is an excellent choice in the sunny border. One word of caution is that it is slow to emerge in the spring so don’t give up on it!

A beautiful plant worthy of patenting! This people stopper has attractive, copper-colored, dissected foliage whose underside is red-orange. Hibiscus moscheutos ‘Lord Baltimore’

This hybrid has dinner-plate sized crimson flowers in Late-season. The profuse blooms have ruffled edges and appear in Mid to Late-season. Hibiscus ‘Sweet Caroline’ (PP7608)

The flower buds as well as the 8" pink flowers with dark veins are the highlight of this beauty. As the buds are opening they resemble beautiful pink rose buds! The slightly ruffled flowers appear in Mid to Late-season on plants that reach 5’ tall. This hybrid is similar to other herbaceous Hibiscus in that they are late to break dormancy (so don’t give up on them) and are native to wet areas but will adapt and grow well in average garden soil. Hosta

Hostas, as you probably already know, are excellent perennials for the shade border. They are primarily grown for their foliage effect yet many have beautiful, sometimes fragrant flowers in Mid to Late-season that attract hummingbirds like crazy in our greenhouses. Hostas are easy to grow in light shade and moist soils. We recommend the most environmentally friendly slug bait of your choice to best enjoy a Hosta garden. Here are our selections for 2007

‘Abiqua Drinking Gourd’ - This cultivar has very distinctive foliage! The unusual blue-green foliage is deeply cupped upward and has a heavily corrugated texture. White blooms are produced on 2’ flower scapes in late June. Mature plant size is 16" tall by 36" wide with an open mounded habit. Every shade garden should have one!

'Allegan Fog' - An interesting Hosta with shiny dark green leaves and white centers that are flecked with green. The flecking creates a "fog" look to the leaf. The white centers will green up as they mature throughout the season. Foliage mound will grow to 16", with the lavender flower scapes reaching 22" in mid-summer. Plant in part-shade to shade with a moist, rich, organic soil.

'Alligator Shoes' - What a supercool Hosta! The large, frosty, blue-green foliage has a white margin. The foliage is large and substantial and has a puckered appearance. ‘Blue Mammoth’ -This popular variety is very highly rated! The deep bluish-green leaves are heavily textured AND slug resistant! As its’ name suggests this plant is big! Leaf size can be 15" long by 11" wide. Mature plant size can reach 30" tall by 60" wide. Near-white flowers are produced on 32" scapes in mid-June. Like most hostas, plant in part to full shade in average woodland type soils with high organic matter.

'Blue Mouse Ears' - Voted the 2008 Hosta of the Year by the American Hosta Growers Association, this distinctive small hosta bears a handsome clump of small blue-green, heart-shaped leaves of thick substance that resist slugs. It is an adorable dwarf hosta with small spikes of lilac flowers on 12" scapes that bloom in summer. Plants have a slow growth rate but are very much worth the wait! An excellent hosta small spaces or rock gardens!

‘Blue Umbrellas’ – This premium variety forms huge mounds of blue-green umbrella-like foliage. The foliage has good substance making it fairly slug resistant. It is a rapid grower that reaches a size of 36" tall by 48" wide. It has pale-lavender flowers in Mid-season.

‘Cherry Berry’ A white and green variegated hosta that is not grown for its variegation but instead for its cherry-red petioles and seed pods. It is a low growing clump former growing to 10” tall. The 26” tall lavender flowers give way to beautiful red seed pods in autumn.

‘Diana Remembered’ - This is a sport of ‘Seventh Heaven’ that is named after the late Diana, Princess of Wales. Blue-green leaves have a creamy-white margins that extends down the leaf petiole. 'Elegans’ – Selected for its heavy texture and large, rounded, blue leaves ‘Elegans’ is a large hosta that grows 24" high and about 40" wide. The white flowers appear on short scapes in early summer. This specimen hosta shows good slug resistance and becomes stately and more textured with age.

'Fragrant Blue' - A great Hosta with thick, wavy, chalky blue leaves. Foliage is very attractive and will grow to 18".
