Physostegia virginiana ‘Red Beauty’
Obedient Plant (Zone
2)
As happens so many times, it seems the name doesn’t really represent the true flower color. The flowers are a rosy-lavender color
and appear as spikes in Mid to Late-season. This selection of the eastern U.S. native grows to about 30" tall and, like most
Physostegias, spreads quite freely. Plant in full sun and average garden soils. Best if used in a semi-wild garden where the
spread won’t be a problem.

Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’
Platycodon grandiflorus ‘Sentimental Blue’
Balloon
Flower (Zone 3)
A compact selection of this long-lived perennial species. Large balloon-like buds open to saucer shaped true-blue flowers in
Mid-season. ‘Sentimental Blue' grows to only 8" tall and about 12-15" wide. Platycodon, a low maintenance plant that adapts to a
wide range of well-drained soils, is a great choice for the front of the full sun border or rock garden. A great cut flower if the
stems are seared by flame before being placed in water. Please note that
Platycodon is one of the last plants to emerge in spring, so be patient and don’t assume it is dead- it's probably not!

Polemonium boreale 'San Juan Skies'
Jacob’s Ladder (Zone 4)
Polemonium caeruleum
Jacob’s Ladder (Zone 2)
Another great North American native that could be used more than it currently is. Blue to sometimes pinkish cup-shaped flowers
appear in clusters in Early to Mid-season. The fern-like foliage forms a nice clump and then extends upright 18-24" at bloom time.
In areas with hot summers, Jacob’s ladder performs best in part-shade in average soil that should be well-drained, especially in
winter! Great in the rock garden or border, this plant produces good blue flowers when there are few other blue blooms present.

Polemonium caeruleum ‘Brise D’Anjou' (PP9781)
Jacob’s Ladder
(Zone 2)
This Blooms of Bressingham introduction was selected for its excellent variegated foliage! The fern-like foliage is
creamy-yellow and dark green, providing an excellent textural contrast in the garden. The blue flowers in Early to Mid-season are
an added bonus. Grows to 24" tall in flower and should be treated culturally much like a hardy fern. Grow in part to full shade
and a moist well-drained soil. Don’t plant in full sun or failure will soon follow.
...............Available in 1-Quart
container only.
Polemonium carneum
‘Apricot Delight’
Jacob’s
Ladder (Zone 5-6)
This selection from the western U.S. species is a little harder to grow than
the eastern species but very beautiful in the collectors garden. It bears lovely
apricot-pink to blue flowers atop dark green foliage in Mid-season. Plants grow
15-20" tall and require
partial shade and evenly moist soils for best results. Plants should be given a more
protected site in colder northern climates.
...............Available in IMPACT container only.

Lungwort (Zone 3)
Silver speckles cover the beautiful dark green leaves of this new hybrid. ‘Dark
Vader’ is a vigorous clump forming perennial that produces sprays of blue-purple
and pink flowers in early spring. This strong, mildew resistant plant performs
best in part shade and grows to about 10-12".

Pulmonaria longifolia ‘E
. B. Anderson’Pulmonaria officinalis ‘Sissinghurst White’
Lungwort (Zone 3)
Growing to 10-12", ‘Sissinghurst White' is a great selection with clear white blooms. The foliage,
unlike some of the other species, is more heart-shaped as opposed to narrow and strap-like. This is definitely one of the best
white blooming varieties available today.
...............Available
in IMPACT container only.
Pulmonaria ‘Raspberry Splash’ (PP12138)
Lungwort (Zone
3)
This premium selection is unique in that it has wonderful raspberry red flowers instead of the more typical blues and pinks.
The foliage is somewhat upright growing with the typical silver spotting. It grows to about 12" tall and prefers a partially
shaded location and consistent soil moisture. This is a unique selection well worth trying!
